Halloween is getting closer, and we’re getting up to some serious double, double toil and trouble! Come out and mix some spooky witches’ brews and potions, make glowing jack-o'-lantern jars, bead Halloween jewelry, decorate your own trick-or-treating bag, and create loads of creepy Halloween art. You’re welcome to come in costume, but expect to get messy. Registration is only required for each participating child. Accompanying adults are free. This workshop is perfect for kids ages 4-10.

Come to Glen Foerd for an info session about our open call for the 2027 Artist Residency. We will meet in the sunroom for a 1-hour tour of Glen Foerd's historic Main House and grounds. We'll look at past residency projects and peek behind some doors to look at the material culture and archives in the collections. After the tour, we'll pause to talk about the application process, resources, community partners, current and upcoming programs, and changes to the 2027 residency cycle to consider in your application. We will wrap up with time for your questions.

Join us at Glen Foerd for open boating! We’ll have canoes, rowboats, and kayaks for guests to explore parts of the Poquessing Creek and Delaware River. This activity is open to all ages, though be prepared for summer temperatures and moderate physical exertion. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Getting in and out of your boat can be a wet and muddy experience. Please wear appropriate clothing and consider bringing something to change into after the activity. Don’t forget your water, snacks, and sunscreen! This is a free walk-up, first-come, first-served event. Boat space is limited. Glen Foerd staff will do our best to ensure that as many people as possible get out on the water, but we cannot make any guarantees.  The meeting point for this event will be behind the Carriage House. Learn Archery with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Glen Foerd! Instructors are National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Certified Basic Archery Instructors. Participants will learn the basics of archery equipment, how to shoot a compound bow, and improve shooting technique. New and experienced archers welcome. This event is appropriate for adults and children ages 8 and up. Feel free to drop in anytime during the two-hour block. Back again for one more date, our extremely popular after-hours tour of the mansion is the perfect way to cap off the Halloween season! Explore the lives-- and perhaps, afterlives-- of the Macalester and Foerderer families. Come along to find out which inhabitants were the most likely to have unfinished business on the property and hear about some ghostly encounters that staff have reported over the years. This tour will briefly cover part of the grounds before heading into the house proper, all the way up to the third floor. Keep this in consideration and bring appropriate footwear. Flashlights are encouraged but not required for safe travel across the grounds at night.

During the cooler months, we are excited to offer yoga classes in the dining room of the mansion led by Northeast Philadelphia yoga teacher Melissa Gyuraki. Vinyasa-style classes will emphasize the development of strength, flexibility, balance, and grace through the use of postures linked to breath. Synchronization of breath with movement allows participants to both recharge and relax. Participants should dress in layers and bring their own yoga mat, towel or blanket, and water. Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start time of the class. Note: $10 is the recommended ticket price for this event, but please select the option that feels right for you. Join us for a glimpse into the rich history of Glen Foerd with a guided tour of the Main House. This engaging and relaxing walk will provide insight into local history while connecting you to the natural space of the Delaware River watershed. Learn how this area of Philadelphia has developed from the Lenape to the Gilded Age. Get a glimpse of the two families that called Glen Foerd home from 1850 to 1971.

Join Isabel Brown, Arts and Culture Program Officer, for a Zoom presentation about Glen Foerd’s application, followed by a Q&A. The presentation will cover updates about the residency format and goals, provide examples of successful projects, highlight Glen Foerd programs and community partners, and offer more information about the staff support, timeline, and resources available at Glen Foerd.
